Missing You
4/25/42
Darling I am lost and all alone
Without your presence near;
Daily to myself I intone
Your name to bring me cheer.
I miss you smile, you hand and touch;
No one else can contribute so much
Towards my well being and happiness;
Without you I am in a sea of loneliness.
In a mental vision I see your face
With well groomed hair set in place;
In your eyes there's a twinkle and a shine,
They speak, "Sweetheart, you are mine".
There's a gnawing at my heart;
It's almost tearing apart;
I long for you in every way;
I need you by my side every day.
Daily it is my fervent prayer
That we soon again may share
The love affair we knew
Before I was called away from you.
Editorial note: The use of "you" in place of "your" in the first line of the second stanza may appear at first to be a typo, but the fact that it appears twice, with no handwritten corrections made, indicates to me that the choice of pronoun is intentional.
