Rays From a Warm Heart

The Poetry of John Michael Rogers

Presented here is a selection of poetry written by my grandfather, John Michael Rogers, a former academic at San Jose State University in California. Most of the poems below were written amid the Second World War, during which he served as an ambulance driver in Burma.

His work from this time medidates upon the subjects of love, friendship, beauty, war, and peace. The scanned images you will find on each page were recovered from a long-gone website about my grandfather's life, set up by my uncle in 2003. Over his lifetime, John Michael Rogers wrote far more poems than the twenty-one currently exhibited on this site, so I hope that, at some point in the future, I will be able to locate and digitize the rest.
